Generosity in Action

Several years ago, when Sheila Bunnell had young children at home and her husband wasn’t able to work, she faced an incredibly tough financial situation. Sheila, a Patient Experience Ambassador at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, applied for a grant from the Friends Helping Friends fund which provided crucial assistance helping her pay utility bills. For the past 21 years, she has shown her gratitude by donating to the Friends Helping Friends fund through payroll deduction, “It is so handy to have it payroll deducted out of my paycheck, I don’t even miss it from my paycheck”

    • Pulmonary Rehab 164076 - Provide financial assistance to AdventHealth’s low-income patients needing Pulmonary or Cardiac Rehab

    • Breyfogle Nursing Education 164017 - Education of experienced nurses in the care of the geriatric population.

    • General Nursing Education 164029 - General support of nursing education.

    • Nurse Education and Resiliency 164110 - Support to enhance the hospital’s efforts to improve the resiliency and educational opportunities for the nursing team members

    • Nicole Reynolds Memorial Fund for Nursing Education 164064 - Support clinical staff at conferences where they will present and poster or paper presentations.

    • Maternity Services Nursing Education 164099 - Support the continuing education of nurses within the AdventHealth Birth Center.

    • Oncology Patient and Survivor Care 164002 - General support of Oncology

    • FACT Program 164088 - Forensic Assessment Consultation and Treatment (FACT) Program provides specialty care 24/7 for patients of all ages affected by sexual assault, physical assault, intimate partner violence and abuse and neglect.

    • Home Health Care 164003 - For basic needs of indigent Home Health patients.

    • Whole Health Institute 164103 - To provide stipends for those who cannot afford the full cost of this self-pay service.

    • Social Services 164024 - Provides patients with immediate support for basic needs such as medication, clothing, and other personal items.

    • Spiritual Wellness 164033 - Support the chaplains and the spiritual health care they provide. 

    • Dr. J. Douglas Cusick Endowment for Medical Missions 164096 - Provides support for AdventHealth Shawnee Mission medical mission trips to Peru and Kenya.

    • Friends Helping Friends 164048 - Provides support for employees facing a financial emergency.

    • Shirley M. Hayes Volunteer Fund 16490 - Supports our volunteer program and supplements the many complimentary services provided for our patients such as: materials for sewing projects; supplies for patient pampering and supplies for patient room service.

    • Britain Development 164023 - Provides general funding for Britain Development programs, services, facilities, and more.

    • Early Learning 164020 - Provides general funding for Early Learning programs and equipment.

    • NICU Support 164006 - Support of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), including support of the patient’s parents.

    • Perinatal Bereavement 164086 - Helps parents dealing with the devastating loss of a stillborn or newborn child including a perinatal support group. 

    • Postpartum Support 164094 -Provides support for moms who are experiencing postpartum depression including training for medical staff to identify those at risk.
