The following programs and initiatives would not be possible without philanthropy:

Behavioral Health Furniture - 3.jpg

Behavioral Health

Behavioral Health received new furniture (chairs, desks, and tables) which is safer for the 2,300 plus patients we serve. Thanks to charitable support, we have significantly improved the aesthetics in this area used for group, individual, family and activity therapies throughout the program day.

Cancer Center

The Cancer Center is a proud partner with Gilda's Club Kansas City to provide free educational classes to those impacted by cancer. The professionally led workshops are for people living with cancer and their loved ones, so that no one faces cancer alone. Over the past six months, this program has served 200 patients.

Camp Bluebird

Camp Bluebird is a two-day, three-night retreat in the spring and fall for adult cancer survivors provided in part with support from AdventHealth Kansas City Foundation. Through the efforts of the Foundation and camp volunteers, each camper’s fees for accommodations, meals, and activities is only $50. When participants talk about their camp experiences, words like “renewing”, “energy” and “not alone” are used. For hundreds of individuals, this camp is a place where hope and healing prevail.

Emergency Department Equipment

A generous gift from the John B. Rust Charitable Foundation, Bank of America N.A. Trustee, was used to purchase equipment for the AHSM Emergency Department.

One of the pieces, The Accuvein, provides rapid vein access with minimum pain. It’s especially useful for the elderly, obese, dark-skinned, and hypovolemic patients, as well as those who have a history of IV drug use or have chronic illness that presents unique problems in finding an appropriate vein to start an IV.

Mission volunteers in Pucallpa, Peru, preparing to provide primary care to hundreds of grateful patients.

Medical Missions

The Medical Mission team traveled to Peru to provide health services to two under-served communities in Juliaca and Pucallpa. 24 AdventHealth Shawnee Mission team members and community volunteers joined the mission. Over 2,500 patients were seen for general medicine, pediatrics, surgery, gynecology, dental, and vision exams. These missions are made possible by the Dr. J Douglas Cusick Medical Missions Endowment.
