David W. Newcomer IV
David Newcomer IV has served as a member of the AdventHealth Shawnee Mission Foundation Board for nearly 30 years. During the 50th year celebration of Shawnee Mission Hospital, David served as chairperson of the Foundation.
Awarded an NROTC scholarship to the University of Kansas, after graduation he was commissioned as an Ensign deployed on the US Winston KA-94 and earned a Vietnam Service Medal.
After his time in active-duty, David joined D. W. Newcomer’s Sons Funeral Services in 1966, eventually becoming a 4th generation partner. He is one of only a handful of practitioners in the country to earn the designations of both Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP) and Certified Cemetery Executive (CCE).
After selling his interest in his company, he was invited onto the Board of Directors of Capital City Bank, headquartered in Topeka, Kansas. By the time the bank was purchased by Capitol Savings Bank, also of Topeka, David had logged more than 15 years on Trust and Trust Investment committees.
Other community activities include Board memberships in the Arts and Recreation Foundation of Overland Park, the Kansas City Museum when Science City was being established at the Union Station. He continues his 40+ years in the Overland Park Rotary Club.
Presently, he is compiling a book on his father’s letters to his mother during WWI
